In my last blog I wrote about about how the Ministry of Justice plans to destroy original Wills after 25 years and rely on digitisation only. There is currently a petition to ask the government to reconsider.
The petition will now close on 30th May when parliament is dissolved due to the forthcoming general election. The current Petitions Committee will not exist after then and petitions cannot be debated in this parliament. After the election a new committee will be formed and it will be up to them to decide which petitions will be debated. There will also be a new Ministry of Justice.
A Parliamentary law will still need to be passed to allow the destruction of Wills but there could be much work to prevent this change.
